The Idolaters

Idolater

The definition of an idolater is a worshiper of idols.

An idol is an image or other material object regarded with blind admiration, adoration, or devotion. It can also be a figment of the mind or fantasy.

Common idols:
Pleasure (food, sex, entertainment), Power (success, money, achievement), and Love (romance, family, me).

"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments." (Exodus 20:4-6)

"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of  God." (Ephesians 5:3-5)

This passage says the immoral, impure, or greedy person is an idolater. You should not have even a hint of these traits. This is not the way God’s holy people should act. You need to remember when you claim to be a Christian you are representing God.

How are you representing God? With obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking? Or do people see your goods deeds and know God is at work in your life?

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

Money is an Idol.

If you are an idolater the bible says you will go to hell! Does this bother you? When compared to eternity, your life is short on Earth. Why would someone want to go to hell when God wants to give us his free gift of eternal life in Heaven?
